Bristol Rhythm AFC remained undefeated Wednesday night, defeating 865 Alliance 1-0 in a match that was far more one-sided than the final score suggested.

From the opening whistle, the Rhythm controlled possession, dictated the pace, and created chance after chance.  Their breakthrough came in the 19th minute when captain Kai Slinn blasted home a first-time finish off a perfectly weighted touch pass from Elliott Edwards, giving Bristol a deserved 1-0 advantage.

The Rhythm continued to dominate throughout the first half, generating multiple opportunities to put the match out of reach, but were unable to convert, taking a 1-0 lead into halftime.

The second half followed much the same script.  Bristol controlled possession for long stretches and continued to create quality chances, but the elusive second goal never came.  Fortunately for the Rhythm, their defense once again proved why it is among the league’s best.

The back line of Taylor Vorbrich, Hugo Martinez, Jack Neumann, and Koke Gracia was outstanding all night, shutting down every attacking threat 865 Alliance attempted to create. Behind them, goalkeeper NoΓ© Delmotte was rock solid whenever called upon, recording another clean sheet.  The shutout marks the Rhythm’s sixth clean sheet of the season, continuing one of the league’s most impressive defensive campaigns.

When the final whistle sounded, the scoreboard read 1-0, but the performance told a much bigger story.

With the victory, the Bristol Rhythm AFC officially captures the Southeast Conference Championship and earns the right to host its first-ever home playoff match at Gene Malcolm Stadium on Wednesday, July 8.

The business isn’t finished yet.

The Rhythm return to action on Saturday at noon as they travel to face Burlington United FC, looking to keep their perfect season alive.
